63 year old man with diabetes for many years and chronic left foot pain. |

Patients with diabetes often develop peripheral neuropathy, or damage to peripheral nerves, which can lead to numbness or tingling in their feet. If they lose sensory input, they may not be aware of damage to their feet, which can be quite severe, as in this case. Image A is a lateral view of our patient's left foot. Image B is a normal comparison lateral view in another patient. What do you think of the alignment of the bones in Image A? Try to identify the talus, navicular and calcaneus in Images A and B. |
