The distal interphalangeal joints (DIP) are shown in red; the proximal interphalangeal joints (PIP) are shown in green. Note that the great toe (like the thumb) has only two phalanges, so it only has an interphalangeal joint (IP), shown in blue; the metatarsophalangeal joints (MTP) are shown in purple. The tarsometatarsal (TMT) joints are shown in yellow. The naming of joints is similar in the hand, with the term 'carpal' instead of 'tarsal' (DIP, PIP, IP, MCP, CMC).

The sesamoids are adjacent to the first MTP (metatarsophalangeal) joint in the foot. There are also sesamoids at the first MCP joint in the hand.

What tendons are the sesamoids located within in the foot?
