Summary: ENT Imaging

1. Radiographs are rarely indicated for ENT unless clinical symptoms are unusual or CT is not available.

2. Most abnormal radiographs will lead to further evaluation with CT, which can give better definition of nodes and important structures of the pharynx/larynx

3. An understanding of the anatomical course of the cranial nerves is particularly important in correlating clinical findings with imaging in ENT cases

4. The epiglottis is important to recognize on CT and radiography, and can cause airway obstruction when swollen due to either infection (acute) or tumor (subacute)

5. Angiography may be helpful in tumors that are very vascular and require intervention for control of bleeding.

6. Nuclear medicine imaging, particularly with PET, is essential in staging of most ENT tumors
