This mass is arising in a crucial area in the brain, the angle between the pons and the cerebellum, called the cerebello-pontine angle, or CPA for short. The 4th ventricle is also seen at this level. Masses in this region can press on the nuclei and nerves involved in detection of position in space, and can produce the sensation of motion or spinning while stationary that the patient perceives as vertigo. In this case, the mass is arising from the dura covering this part of the skull base, a meningioma.
