These are images from an ERCP, or endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatogram. In this procedure, an endoscope is passed through the oral cavity to the ampulla of Vater, which is cannulated to allow contrast to be injected directly into the biliary tree. Various procedures can also be performed, including biopsies, as well as use of balloons to clear away sludge and stones. In order to facilitate access and subsequent drainage, a sphincterotomy is performed, which prevents the sphincter of Oddi from obstructing the ampulla. Can you find a balloon on these images?
