ICM-II: CHEST, case 1 |
COMPARISON cases The patient on the right has a lot of soft tissue outside their ribs, indicating obesity or possibly edema. If you look closely at the tissues there, you may be able to tell whether this tissue is fat or muscle and what the proportion of both is. The patient on the left has very little tissue outside the ribs, suggesting lack of fat and muscle and possibly a chronic illness. |
The level of inspiration of the patient on the right is not good--their lungs are only slightly longer than they are wide, indicated by the red arrows. The level of inspiration of the patient on the left is better, perhaps only slightly low. If you count their ribs, they have 9 posterior ribs visible, similar to the other patient. |
