Diagnostic Workflow
Unlike screening mammography, the patient receives a final recommendation at the time of their imaging for diagnostic mammography.
The mammographer performs as many images, and types of images, as needed to reach a final conclusion on the symptom or screening finding that initiated the diagnostic workup.
The mammographer often speaks to the patient and discusses with her the results of the imaging and the recommendation for any additional tests, biopsies, or other types of studies.
At the completion of the study, the patient knows what will be done next, and what additional imaging (if any) will be needed at what time interval.
