1. MRI is not used in place of diagnostic mammography (special views and/or US)
2. MRI is not used as a substitute for screening mammography (because MRI will miss some cancers that mammography will detect [ie, DCIS, which accounts for 25% of all breast cancer cases])
3. MRI is not used in lieu of biopsy of a mammographically, clinically, or sonographically suspicious finding

Breast MRI is almost never used in the workup of noncalcified mammographic findings
Breast MRI is usually not appropriate in the workup of a palpable mass
