Standard mammographic views
A routine mammogram includes two views of each breast
– Craniocaudal (CC) and
– Mediolateral oblique (MLO)
Obtaining 2 views from each breast improves cancer detection (11-25% would be missed with only 1 view) and helps differentiate superimposed tissue from a real finding and thus reduces recall rates; but increases cost and radiation exposure (radiation from routine 2-view mammogram = 3 months of natural background radiation)
