MAMMO for MED STUDENTS

TNM Staging:

T (Size)

TX - Tumor cannot be measured or found

T0 - No evidence of primary tumor

Tis - in situ

T1 T2 T3 T4 - Increasing T number = Increasing size of tumor and/or greater extent of growth into neighboring breast tissue

N (LN)

NX - Nearby LN cannot be measured or found

N0 - Nearby LN do not contain cancer

N1 N2 N3 - Based on #LN involved and how much cancer found in them - Increasing N number = Greater extent of lymph node involvement

M (Metastasis)

MX - Metastasis cannot be measured or found

M0 - No distant metastasis

M1 - Distant metastasis is present

MALIGNANT BREAST DISORDERS:

Invasive Ductal Cancer (IDC)

Breast Cancer Stages:

I

Tumor < 2 cm with no spread outside the breast

No tumor found in breast but micrometastatic LN involvement

Tumor < 2 cm with micrometastatic LN involvement

II

No tumor found in breast but cancer spread to 1-3 nearby LN

Tumor  < 2cm with axillary LN involvement

Tumor > 2cm and > 5cm with no/micrometastatic axillary LN involvement

Tumor > 2cm and > 5cm with spread to 1-3 nearby LN

Tumor > 5cm with no LN involvement

III

Tumor any size with spread to 4-9 nearby LNs

Tumor > 5cm with micrometastatic LN involvement

Tumor > 5cm with spread to 1-3 nearby LN

Tumor any size that has spread into chest wall and/or skin of breast and caused swelling or ulceration +/- spread to up to 9 axillary LN +/- spread to LN near breastbone

Tumor any size with spread to 10+ axillary LN +/- spread to chest wall and/or skin of the breast +/- spread to LN above or below the collarbone +/- spread to LN near the breastbone

IV

Distant metastases (Bone, liver, lungs, brain, skin, distant LN)
