IDC is the most common type of breast cancer (>70% of invasive breast cancers)
Treatment: Based on stage and receptor-status of tumor
Stage I Surgery w/LN sampling, then RT (if BCS) and adjuvant systemic therapy based on tumor receptor-status
Stage II Neoadjuvant systemic therapy may be given prior to surgery (to shrink tumor for BCS), surgery w/LN sampling, then RT (if BCS) and adjuvant systemic therapy based on tumor receptor-status
Stage III Option 1) Neoadjuvant therapy first, followed by surgery w/ALND, followed by RT +/- adjuvant systemic therapy Option 2) Surgery first (usually mastectomy) w/ALND, followed by RT and adjuvant systemic therapy
Stage IV Palliative systemic therapy based on tumor receptor-status and patient symptoms. RT, surgery, regional chemotherapy for symptomatic relief (eg, mets pressing on spinal cord, to prevent bone fxs)
