HIGH RISK BREAST DISORDERS:
Radial Scar
Risk of unrecognized in situ or invasive component: 8% to 17% of excision specimens are positive for malignancy; May be a nidus for development of DCIS or independent risk factor for development of carcinoma in either breast
Diagnosis: CNB; but usually histopathologic diagnosis/biopsy incidentaloma: Fibroelastic core with radiating ducts and lobules with varying degrees of abnormal epithelial growth; Radial scar = lesion < 1cm; Complex sclerosing lesion = lesion > 1cm
Imaging: Mammogram: Focal architectural distortion with "black star" appearance US: If findings are present, they are indistinguishable from breast cancer
Management: Surgical excision
