This diagram shows the basic technique of a latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction. The amount of tissue that can be brought into the breast region is generally smaller than for a TRAM reconstruction. The thoracodorsal artery is shown in green. The origin of the artery from the upper part of the muscle makes it possible to cut all or part of the muscle free posteriorly and bring it around into the breast region without losing vascular supply.
