Sutures used for GI anastomoses are very fine metallic staples that are laid down by a stapler, and appear as a fine dense chaine on radiographs. Note the differenct appearance of stool in the more proximal colon, which has a more speckled appearance, compared to stool in the distal colon, which has a more solid, mass-like appearance. Note that the folds in the stomach are longitudinal, which is different from folds elsewhere in the GI tract. These longitudinal folds are called rugae. |
