A few basic facts will help you in looking at anatomy on imaging.

Types of imaging:

radiography (x-rays)-represent a 3D object as a 2D projection

CT (x-rays that circle around the body)-present a 3D object as a series of slices

MR (based on magnetic and chemical properties of tissues)-present a 3D object as a series of slices

US (sound waves sent into and bounced off of body tissues)-show small slices of the body in various orientations

nuclear medicine (use of radioactive tracers to highlight specific tissues or body processes)-show level of activity, either as a projection or a slice
