This is again our patient's CT, with additional structures labeled related to the peritoneal spaces. This patient has a large amount of fluid in the peritoneal space, a condition called ascites. The peritoneal space is not apparent on a normal CT as it is a collapsed space that contains only a thin film of fluid, too thin to be visible on CT.
