The vascular territory of the middle cerebral artery (and its deep branches, the lenticulo-striate arteries) are shown in red. These supply most of the basal ganglia, which are grey matter located deep in the brain, rather than on the surface, like the rest of the grey matter of the cortex. The vascular territory of the anterior cerebral artery is shown in blue. The vascular territory of the posterior cerebral artery is shown in yellow.
