The stomach is in purple, the pancreas in orange, the falciform ligament of the liver in green. There is fluid surrounding the anterior part of the liver in aqua, in the greater sac (peritoneal cavity). The fluid between the stomach and pancreas is in the lesser sac. Fluid in the peritoneal space is common in patients with cirrhosis related to alcoholism. The yellow line indicates the bare area of the liver, where there is no peritoneal covering. The fluid cannot go into this space, even when the patient is lying on their back, as for a CT scan. |
