This is a CT (bones are white around edges, fat is dark), in the axial plane displayed in soft tissue windows (fat and muscle are very different in color). There is NO IV contrast present. So why is the aorta so white? This patient has very severe atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and this may explain his symptoms, because blood flow is decreased through such abnormal vessels.
