When a structure is protruding into a space where it is not normally located, this is called a 'hernia'. There can be hernias in many parts of the body, but one of the structures that can have a hernia coming through it is the diaphragm. The diaphragm is very thin and abdominal organs can come through weak areas, as in our patient. This type of hernia is called a Bochdalek hernia, named after a Bohemian anatomist. The images above are from a different patient. What are the technical parameters of the study and what do you see? |
