This mass is very different in appearance from the breast cyst example (Image B). It is irregular in contour, with a jagged edge, similar to the spiculated appearance seen on the mammogram. There is a dark band posterior to the mass (shadowing) that is the opposite of the appearance of a cyst (which showed increased through-transmission, or a bright band behind the lesion). This appearance is very worrisome for a breast cancer.
