This study is a different type of nuclear medicine scan, using a tracer (Technetium-99m MIBI) that is taken up by the parathyroid glands. You can see on these rotating images that the large mass in the right lobe of the thyroid is very hot, indicating that this is a parathyroid tumor, not a thyroid tumor, and is likely the cause of the patient's elevated calcium.
