Summary: Pulmonary Imaging 1. It is important whenever looking at a CXR to check for global abnormalities, like mediastinal shift or overall distribution of lung disease. 2. Knowledge of pleural and lobar anatomy can help in identifying lobar collapse and lobar consolidation. 3. Hilar adenopathy is an important finding for patients with symptoms of infection as it is most commonly seen in tuberculosis and is rare in other infections. 4. Tension pneumothorax is a clinical diagnosis but can be suggested in patients with large PTX or significant mediastinal shift 5. Mediastinal shift is also important in distinguishing effusion from collapse. 6. Analysis of interstitial lung disease is complex and requires integration of many imaging and clinical results to reach a reasonable differential diagnosis. |
