The pattern of blood extending into the sulci in our patient is typical for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), between the pia and arachnoid layers of the meninges. This bleeding is most often from cerebral vessels, either due to trauma or rupture of an aneurysm. Our patient had a small aneurysm that had ruptured.

on surface of brain, within pia layer, branches of the circle of Willis

on inner surface of skull, branches of middle meningeal

within layers of dura(falx), drain into internal jugular
