What type of study is this? This is also a head MRI, in the sagittal plane, and it is another example of a FLAIR sequence. How would you describe the abnormal findings? There are high signal abnormalities (outlined in red) in the periventricular white matter, many radiating out perpendicular to the surface of the ventricle. This radiating pattern is called 'Dawson's fingers' and can be seen in multiple sclerosis, where the areas of demyelination run along with periventricular veins. The ventricles are outlined in green. Note that there is evidence of demyelination in the cerebellum as well. |
