You can usually identify the BOTTOM of the SVC easily by finding the cavo-atrial junction (CAJ), a point where the curve of the right mediastinal border changes somewhat abruptly. The UPPER end of the SVC can only be estimated, and is usually near the middle of the aortic arch, as shown. The right mediastinal border is made up of the right atrium below, the ascending aorta and the SVC/right brachiocephalic vein above, as shown on the image.
