The C7 nerve root arises ABOVE the C7 vertebral body, but the C8 spinal nerve root arises BELOW the C7 vertebral body.

Below the C7 vertebra, spinal nerve roots arise BELOW the corresponding vertebral body level.

This patient had suffered trauma from a fall, and the C8 nerve root on the right ends abruptly--a pseudomeningocele, which occurs when a nerve root has been avulsed. (red arrows).
